- Multichannel audio editing and recording.
- Updated Channel Converter for multichannel files.
- Updated Spectrum Analysis for multichannel files.
- Drag-and-drop mixing and pasting between channels.
- Hardware Meters window for monitoring hardware outputs and adjusting preview levels.
- Phase scope and mono-compatibility meter.
- You can now cut, paste, and delete data from individual channels of multichannel files.
- You can now update the cursor position and selection by double-clicking and editing the selection status boxes in data windows.
- Improved process and effects dialogs with selection, wet/dry mix, fade-in/out controls.

- Enhanced snapping.
- Enhanced color customization via Display Preferences.
- Enhanced keyboard customization.
- Updated marker and region ruler with selection snapping.
- Gracenote® MusicID™ technology for extracted audio from CDs.
- If you click the Custom button after
choosing a file format template in the Batch Converter,
the template name displayed will not match the selected
template. Although the save settings will be correct, Default
Template is displayed on the Save Options dialog
and the Save tab. If you want to verify the template settings
in the Custom Template window, simply choose the template
again after closing the Custom Template window, and the
correct template name will be displayed.
- 24-bit Windows Media Audio files will always be read as
16-bit files in Windows 2000. This is a limitation of the
operating system. You can render 24-bit WMA files, but if
you want to read these files as 24-bit audio, copy them
to a Windows XP machine.
- If the cursor in the Script Editor window disappears,
click outside the Script Editor window, and then return
to editing.
- Project5 plug-ins cause an exception at the end of
processing. Previewing through these plug-ins with the
Loop Playback button selected will mask
this exception.
If you use a plug-in chain that includes plug-ins that produce tails, such as
Simple Delay, the tails
will not be generated if those plug-ins occur after the Project5 plug-ins.
To
avoid
this, place the Project5 plug-ins at the end of the plug-in chain or add
tail-generating
effects
in separated processing passes.
- Uninstalling Sound Forge 7.0 can cause the Sound Forge
Volume and Pan plug-in to become unregistered in Sound
Forge 9.0. Please download the Sony Migration Tools from our Web site. Next, run the Register Sony DirectX Audio
Plug-Ins migration tool to reregister the plug in (Start
> Programs > Sony > Utilities > Migration Tools > Register
Sony DirectX Audio Plug-Ins).
- Copy-protected ATRAC audio files may fail to preview correctly or may open as silence.
- The Windows Media Audio 9 Voice codec is not included with the Windows Media Player 11 update. If you've installed Windows Media Player 11, rendering to Windows Media Audio 9 format will produce an error.
Microsoft has released a hotfix to resolve this issue: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/932390/en-us
- If recording fails when using the Automatic: MIDI Timecode method, try increasing the MIDI timecode start and MIDI timecode end values on the MIDI Timecode Options tab in the Record dialog.
- If you preview a file while using the Antares Kantos 1.0 plug-in, Sound Forge may crash if you change the plug-in presets.
- Using the Sony Track Compressor, Track EQ, or Track Noise Gate on files that have more than six audio channels can cause Sound Forge to crash.
- Saving an .mp4 file to MXF format using the Default Template can cause Sound Forge to crash.
- The LPEC format limits title metadata to 126 Unicode characters and artist metadata to 14 Unicode characters. Metadata that exceeds these limits will be truncated when rendering to LPEC format.
